The key to preventing and managing diabetes lies in halting its progression among high-risk groups and individuals with prediabetes, and slowing its advancement from early to late stages. Exercise emerges as a potent tool in this battle, capable of mitigating risk factors for diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, and elevated fasting blood glucose levels. The 6-year follow-up from China's "Daqing Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Diabetes Study" reveals compelling data. In the control group, 67.7% of patients with impaired glucose tolerance transitioned to diabetes. However, in groups subjected to diet or exercise interventions, this figure dropped to 43.8% and 41.1%, respectively.
